CHAPTER 01 · THE FOUNDER
One bay, one mechanic, one Holset on the bench.
Midwest Turbo Connection started the way most serious shops do — a third-generation diesel mechanic, a single service bay in Des Moines, and a phone that wouldn’t stop ringing for Ford and Dodge turbo work.
The shop opened in 2009 off Dixon Street in Des Moines, Iowa, with one lift, one workbench and a founder who’d grown up rebuilding 7.3L Power Stroke HE351s out of his father’s garage. Demand from local farmers, contractors and weekend racers pushed the bay into a four-bay shop by 2012, and a dedicated Holset line by 2014.
In 2015 the shop earned its Holset Authorized Reconditioning Center designation — one of only 14 in the United States — and by 2018 had broken ground on the 60,000 sq-ft climate-controlled warehouse that now ships 92% of orders the same day they’re placed.
Today the company is still family-owned, still rooted in Des Moines, and still run by people who turn their own wrenches. Thirty-eight employees, seven ASE Master-Certified technicians, and 6,200+ diesel performance builds supported later, the work hasn’t changed: ship the right turbo, fast, and stand behind it.

Founded in Des Moines, Iowa as a single-bay diesel repair shop by a third-generation diesel mechanic. Word-of-mouth from local farms and contractors fills the lift within the first year.
